North American maple shells are 7-ply pressure-bonded shells and undersized by 3mm, the traditional characteristic of Premier professional drums. This coupled with a precision-cut bearing edge allows the drumhead to sit flatter, producing increased sustain and low-end frequencies which result in an extraordinarily versatile tuning range. This design characteristic borrows from our finest orchestral timpani where tone and clarity are key.
