Ibanez BTB675 Natural Flat The concepts behind boutique basses are often justification for making them extremely expensive. With the advent of the BTB, Ibanez decided that these same concepts of well-selecterd body materials, 35" neck scale, and deep cutaways could be applied to an instrument that anyone could afford. The BTB675-NTF has a walnut/light ash wing body, comfortable 5-piece 'neck-thru' BTB5 maple/bubinga neck, a rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlays and 24 medium frets. The MR-2 bridge keeps the tuning stability rock solid. The Ibanez BTB 675 also features Bartolini MK2 pickups and onboard 3-band eq with separate bass, mid and treble boost/cut control knobs for incredible tonal variety.

Washburn T14 Taurus Bass Bl… The Taurus T14 looks as good as it plays. An eye-catching black finish, distinctive shape, and above-average -quality chrome hardware, reels you in before you have a chance to appreciate the T14’s other qualities. The first thing you will notice when you pick up the bass is its weight, or lack of it. At just over 7 pounds, it’s one of the lightest basses around. The bass balances wonderfully when using a strap, because of the body’s long, swollen upper horn. In another nod to comfort, the T14’s top and back are slightly contoured to eliminate potential sore spots on the player’s arm or ribs. The Washburn’s T14 neck setup is outstanding for an instrument in this price range. All of the frets are well dressed, and notes are buzz-free across the two-octave neck. The two-piece neck has a thin, satiny smooth finish and feels resonant to your fretting hand. The Taurus’ inviting playability, good sounds, and respectable hardware are charming. The Washbrun T14 is one hell of a bass! And with a price like this, it’s hard to not feel inspired.

Happy Birthday to the King of the Flat…
This year marks the 75th Anniversary of one of the most distinctive—and most beautiful--acoustic guitars known to popular music. Epi fans know it as the Epiphone EJ-200, and it was, and still is, the king of the flat-tops. The original J-200 was introduced in 1938 and perhaps no more than 100 went into production. It became an instant classic and though it was revived in the '50s, originals are expensive and tough to find. (No one ever gets rid of a '200' super jumbo.) The Epi EJ-200 made this fantastic instrument available to musicians everywhere and for the first time in its history, it's safe to say there are probably more EJ-200s in the world right now than the original designers could have ever imagined. Singers love the "200" for its woody, balanced tone that neatly sidesteps the bass and treble range of the human voice, making it the perfect accompanist for singers. Dreadnought style acoustics can be boomy and somewhat moody in their tone, but the "200" never gets in a sin…
