The Caparison Dellinger-MJR (Michael J. Romeo) is based upon the regular Caparison Dellinger II that Michael previously used. Modifications at Michaels request have been made with particular attention being paid to the unique neck grip that is the result of extensive research and development. Michael tested several pre-production and sample necks before finalising the design, with the chosen design enabling him to execute the fast phrases he is renowned for accurately and smoothly. Other custom features include a natural, inlay-free Maple fingerboard and DiMarzio pickups that add a unique character to the Dellinger's sound.
DiMarzio has always made magnetic soundhole pickups designed to stand alone with no processing. But we've always known that adding an active circuit designed to work with a specific pickup could go even further in creating a natural, open sound. We started with The Angel™ and developed The Angel™ Active in cooperation with Shadow Electronics. The electronics are mounted on an acoustic endpin jack, and include a volume control that attaches to the rim of the soundhole. The Angel™ can still be used as a passive pickup by attaching a standard guitar cable (included) instead of going to the endpin jack.
It has always been one of our goals to create a magnetic pickup that reproduces the exact sound of an acoustic guitar. After years of research, experimenting, and soul-searching, we’ve concluded that the most important characteristic for an acoustic pickup is pretty straightforward: it should sound and feel good. The sound part is obvious. The pickup has to “hear” the entire range of the acoustic guitar from top to bottom, with no gaps anywhere. The “feel” is just as important. It has to track your right- and left-hand dynamics, and respond immediately to the sound coming off the string. A pickup that can do both of these things is going to do the job, and you’ll be happy with it. And that’s what we have accomplished with The Angel.
